Tofu

GENDER: Female

SIZE: Medium-bodied, approximately 45lbs

AGE: Approximately 5 years old

LOCATION: Vancouver, Canada

Tofu was one of our very first rescues. She was found in San Jose covered in mange and so depressed she could hardly lift her head. Over the months that followed and many medical baths later, her bubbly personality began to shine, and we all fell in love with her.

Tofu spent almost two years with us due to reactivity issues with other dogs, which were only worsened by being at the rescue when what she really needed was a calm and stable environment to thrive. Thankfully, some wonderful humans stepped up to bring Tofu to Canada to be fostered and have the space to work on training with her where she has blown us away with her progress!

There aren’t enough words to describe how special this girl is. She has been through so much yet has infinite amounts of love to give and has touched so many people all over the world with her big personality and cuteness.

Below you will some beautiful words from her foster humans, where she has touched their hearts as much as she touched ours at the rescue. They are located near Vancouver, Canada and are available for meet and greets! To contact them, you can submit an application on our website, send us an email, or contact them directly via Tofu’s instagram (which surpassed 1,000 followers in just a couple of weeks!) @ ti _ amo _ tofu .

What her foster parents say about her:

“What to say about the most perfect baked potato? Well for starters, you will never know a more special dog. And that’s coming from someone who has 3 rescues already!

This medium sized pal is such a quick learner. She loves to learn new things and she LOVES a routine! Within days she was in her rhythm of sitting in her “place” and waiting for her special command to eat “mangia”. She figured out right away that the perfect spot to perch while getting her collar and leash on for walks was halfway up the entry stairs. And literally only took her one day to know we weren’t down with her jumping on the bed uninvited. I could go on with how much she’s learned and how fast for hours!

I know for so many folks Tofu will be the perfect companion dog. She loves her walks oh so much, to the point where walking around with Tofu reminds us how grateful we feel to get our legs moving and how special fresh air is. She isn’t reactive on walks either. We’ve had a few incidence so far where other dogs have been very reactive either across the street or even one time leaping out of a car at us and Tofu was unfazed!! Barking dogs, screaming kids, garbage trucks, she just waddles along.

When at home girl can nap! If it wasn’t for her every so often piggy snorts you could easily forget she’s there. She’s so down for all the cuddles and also is an independent lady that knows when touch time is done and wants to finish her naps in her own bed.

Tofu is also a legend at being left alone. She just sleeps. She’s an icon really. I think we are up to 5 hours in our practice alone time now and she is either passed out in her fave spot on the couch or smooshed in her bed. If there was a Guinness record for chill, our potato would take that title easily!

Tofu in the morning is the best, she’s extra sweet and just wants all the pets as she’s longingly stares deep into your eyes. Mid day tofu is on her back wanting belly rubs. And evening Tofu is snuggled up beside you on the couch as the ultimate Netflix and chill buddy. I’d like to personally thank her for binge watching all of Love is Blind Habibi with me.

We’ve learned that she is cool meeting other doggos on walks but as for friendship she prefers dogs that are great communicators and also listen to her cues as well. Tofu and one of our rescues Sir (a year older than Tofu and also a pitty mix) became fast friends. They love their multiple daily walks and park adventures together and are also totes copacetic sharing space indoors. With proper introductions with a respectful dog we don’t see why Tofu can’t live with another pup.

As for kids, Tofu could care less when they are just passer by’s on walks but does get scared when they stare her dead in the eyes. Lolz. Honestly, me too. Teenagers I think she would be fine with the only caveat being she doesn’t fully understand she is a wrecking ball yet so can easily bulldoze over a smaller human by accident. She is quickly learning gentle tho. Poor thing is 50lbs in a 2’ package so even her giving you her paw can pack a punch if you aren’t prepared.

If you are familiar with bully breeds it’s very normal for them to use their body weight in play. Sometimes our compact gal gets the zoomies and my gosh that 50lbs coming atcha is a lot, but I gotta say with regular walks plus trick time, they don’t seem to happen to much anymore. Just like any other dog she needs play time and not just exercise. Sans play time and you got a Miley Cyrus Wrecking Ball on your hands.

Tofu’s fur is almost all back now. She has so much new face fuzz!!! And she is def losing weight! Tofu in a few months will be a whole new gal.

I would recommend Tofu to any household that knows and loves bully breeds and loves just doing life with their best bud.

I can’t wait for you to love her like we do! ❤️

Ti amo Tofu!!!!”
